Lecturer in Clinical Psychology


We are looking for an HCPC registered Clinical Psychologist to develop a clinical academic career within a team committed to providing a high standard of training in clinical psychology. Leeds has a longstanding and highly regarded clinical psychology training programme. We are a close knit, friendly and supportive team, with excellent links with clinical psychology and expert by experience colleagues in West Yorkshire. We also regularly collaborate with academic colleagues in the Institute for Health

Sciences.

As a Lecturer, you will carry out scholarship and teaching activities within the programme. There is an expectation that you will help develop teaching in an area of expertise and take on doctoral research supervision of trainee projects. As an academic tutor, you will support trainees in developing critical appraisal and study skills and will also work closely with clinical tutors and support and technical staff on the team. You will also be supported in developing your own skills and interests within clinical psychology.

Main duties and responsibilities:

• To undertake innovative research-led teaching on Clinical Psychology as needed; 

• To act as academic tutor and provide tutorials, and as appraisal tutor for psychologists in clinical training; 

• To participate in the assessment of student academic and research performance including assessment of essays and problem-based learning, review of research proposals and progression in research, and examination of theses; and to provide timely feedback; 

• To undertake specific administrative tasks relevant to the development and maintenance of the Clinical Psychology Programme e.g. participation in recruitment and selection of students, Programme Management Committee, management of student, research activity, curriculum development; 

• To provide support and guidance to students, acting as a personal tutor, resolving issues and/or referring to specialist parties, where appropriate; 

• To supervise doctoral research conducted by trainees on the programme and other doctoral students within the Institute; 

• To pursue, develop and take forward pedagogic developments relating to learning and teaching on the clinical psychology training programme; 

• To engage in knowledge transfer and continuous professional development, and maintain registration with the HCPC; 

• To act as internal examiner of doctoral work at the University of Leeds. The post holder is also expected to take opportunities to examine at other universities; 

• To contribute at an appropriate level to School and Faculty policy and practice in teaching; 

• To maintain an external profile within learning and teaching or own subject area at a level appropriate to the discipline; 

• To contribute to the efficient running of the clinical psychology training programme as a whole, including planning and development; 

• In conjunction with the Programme Director(s) and other staff, to produce and compile submissions to accrediting bodies.

These duties provide a framework for the role and should not be regarded as a definitive list. Other reasonable duties may be required consistent with the grade of the post.
