Clinical Research Fellow in Cardiac MRI
This role will be based on the university campus, with scope for it to be undertaken in a hybrid manner. We are also open to discussing flexible working arrangements.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our research team, working on one of our research themes in cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging. As part of a multidisciplinary team of clinicians, physicists and data scientists, you will working on the VENTOUX (VENTricular arrhythmia and cardiac fibrOsis in endUrance eXperienced athletes) research programme. You will lead your own studies in one of these areas, including methods development and clinical studies, as well as contributing to the work of the research group as a whole.
The post supports our institute’s internationally-leading research programme in cardiovascular imaging. The post holder will work with advanced MR methods including MR Spectroscopy, Diffusion Tensor Imaging, multi-directional flow and parametric mapping and our clinical trials team. They will also work in the fields of sports cardiology and cardiac rhythm monitoring.
You will be supported in applying for an externally funded PhD fellowship at the University of Leeds. You will also have the opportunity to undertake clinical training in CMR up to Level 3.

As Clinical Research Fellow your main duties will include:
• Generating and pursuing original research ideas in the appropriate subject area;
• Developing research objectives and proposals and contributing to setting the direction of the research project and team including, where appropriate preparing proposals for funding in collaboration with colleagues;
• Reviewing ECG traces from research participants
• Identifying and recruit suitable patients for studies from across the Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust and the West Yorkshire region following good practice guidelines;
• Supporting multicentre studies in the department;
• Supporting, and after training undertaking, CMR scanning through preparation of patients for scans and clinical support during scanning;
• Leading on all aspects of data collection, database entry and data analysis;
• Communicating or presenting research results through publication or other recognised forms of output;
• Preparing papers for publication in leading international journals and independently writing reports;
• Evaluating methods and techniques used and results obtained by other researchers and to relate such evaluations appropriately to your own work;
• Keeping abreast of the literature and maintain a good working knowledge of the background and current developments in the field of the project;
• Working both independently and also as part of a larger team of researchers, engaging in knowledge-transfer activities where appropriate and feasible;
• Undertaking training in cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), including MRI physics and methods, clinical indications and scanning;
• Supporting the clinical CMR service at Leeds Teaching Hospital NHS Trust (no more than 1 day/week);
• Undertaking clinical CMR training to attain European Society of Cardiology or SCMR Level 2 or 3 CMR certification;
• Contributing to teaching activities of the group where appropriate.
