Research Fellow in Liquid Crystal Elastomers

Are you an ambitious researcher looking for your next challenge? Do you have an established background in materials science? Do you want to further your career in one of the UK’s leading research intensive Universities?

Up to three positions are available in a multidisciplinary programme based in the School of Physics and Astronomy, working with Prof Helen Gleeson and Dr Peter Hine, in the Soft Matter Physics Group at Leeds University.

You will focus the auxetic response in liquid crystal elastomers and work on the first steps in translating this response to industrial applications. In addition to carrying out research into liquid crystal elastomeric materials, characteristics and specific devices, you will be an excellent communicator, writing reports and papers, contributing to patent applications and making presentations. You will work with our industrial collaborators in technology transfer.

You will have, or be about to receive, an experimental PhD degree in Physics, Chemistry or Engineering, along with significant experience in liquid crystal physics or liquid crystal elastomers.
