Do you have an established background in computational biology and bioinformatics? Do you want to further your career in one of the UKs leading research intensive Universities?

We are looking for an outstanding postdoctoral research fellow to join the Aspden group at the University of Leeds. The postdoc will be part of a large team (£5.6M, funded by a BBSRC Strategic Longer and Larger grant). The team aims to unravel the ‘ribosome code’, rules that explain how compositionally dissecting ribosomes enable translation of specific sets of mRNAs. Specifically, the postdoc will focus on dissecting the molecular mechanisms using bioinformatics and computational approaches. This will include analysing ribosome profiling data and direct-RNA-Seq data, as well as building novel pipelines and employing machine learning approaches to predict translational output. The postdoc will work closely with others of the team who will generate the data. Together we will be able to dissect conserved mechanisms of ribosome specialisation across eukaryotes, allowing us to unravel the ‘ribosome code’.

The University of Leeds and the Faculty of Biological Sciences are committed to providing equal opportunities for all and offer a range of family friendly policies.
This role will be based on the university campus with scope for it to be undertaken in a hybrid manner. We are also open to discussing flexible working arrangements.

The University of Leeds is one of the top 80 universities in the world. We have a truly global community, with more than 39,000 students from 170 different countries and over 9,000 staff of 100 different nationalities. Established in 1904, we have a strong tradition of academic excellence, reflected in first-class student education, along with world-leading research that has a real impact around the globe.

Are you interested in supporting the work of high-profile national research projects at the forefront of climate and environmental science? Do you have excellent communication and organisational skills, and experience of providing administrative support for research projects, meetings and events?

The role of Research Administrator will provide support to two key initiatives within the Faculty of Environment:

(1) The Production and Consumption Transformations (PACT) Centre, a collaborative research project that explores how we can align low carbon production and consumption to deliver the step change needed to meet our 2030 targets and set a path towards a fair and just net zero transition. This project brings together three leading UK universities with government partners to deliver actionable insights and ensure real-world impact;

(2) PROFEED, a collaborative research project that enhances the resilience of EU farming systems. Climate change and soil degradation challenge the resilience of European farming systems, making the transition to locally sourced, sustainable protein crops an urgent priority. You will act as a key point of contact for researchers, external collaborators, and managers, supporting a wide range of activities including collating reports, coordinating high-level meetings, developing communications materials and managing data. The ideal candidate will bring experience of supporting research projects, an efficient and proactive approach, and the ability to work across organisational boundaries. An interest in climate, environmental and sustainability science would also be an advantage.

ThIs role will sit in our wider Energy, Climate Change and Sustainability Support Team, and work closely with academic leaders involved in sustainability research. Do you want to further your career in one of the UK’s leading research-intensive Universities?

Learning does not just shape what we remember, it reshapes how we perceive, altering the earliest stages of sensory processing. You will use in vivo two-photon calcium imaging in mice, alongside behavioural assays and computational modelling, to track how learning-driven changes emerge in these early circuits and how this shapes perception.

You will join a collaborative lab within a thriving neuroscience community at Leeds, home to over 44 research labs across multiple faculties, with access to cutting-edge imaging facilities.

The University of Leeds and the Faculty of Biological Sciences are committed to providing equal opportunities for all and offer a range of family friendly policies. The University is a charter member of Athena SWAN (the national body that promotes gender equality in higher education), and the Faculty of Biological Sciences was awarded a Silver award in 2020. We are proud to be an inclusive Faculty that values all staff, and are happy to consider job share applications and requests for flexible working arrangements from our employees.
