Teaching Fellow in Religious Studies

Are you an academic with proven abilities to carry out teaching in Religious Studies? Are you passionate about delivering an exceptional student experience in a research-intensive Russell Group university? Would you like to join and contribute to the vibrant academic community in the interdisciplinary School of Philosophy, Religion and History of Science?

As a Teaching Fellow, you will carry out teaching in various areas of Religious Studies. You will also contribute to the supervision and marking of undergraduate final-year projects and to the personal tutoring of undergraduate students within the School.

Your teaching may vary from year to year, but is likely to include generic undergraduate modules such as ‘Introduction to the Study of Religions’ and ‘Studying Religion in Context’, and more specific modules like ‘Religions of India’ and ‘Religion and Media’. At postgraduate level, you may contribute to modules such as ‘Religion, Politics and Society’ and ‘Studying Religion: Research Process, Methods and Ethics’.

You may also be asked to assist with the teaching of a first- or second-year module on the BA Liberal Arts programme or a broad-ranging foundation-year module called ‘Exploring the Arts and Humanities’.

Responsibilities will include preparing teaching materials, lecturing, leading seminars, assessment, and one-to-one supervision of undergraduate dissertations. You will participate in and contribute to activities coordinated by the Centre for Religion and Public Life, and you may be asked to take on a modest amount of administrative work.

You will have submitted your PhD thesis (or be within a month of submitting it) in Religious Studies (or another demonstrably relevant area) and have relevant subject expertise and teaching experience.
