Software Engineer / Mechatronics Engineer (KTP Associate)

Salary: £30,000 - £36,000 + a Personal Development budget of £4,000

This KTP role will be based at Paxman Coolers Limited, Huddersfield, HD8 0LE

Do you hold a BSc in Software Engineering or Mechatronics Engineering? Do you excel in designing software-based solutions and have a solid grasp of mechanical design principles? Are you proficient in developing embedded software, firmware, and coding for managing device and sensor data processing?

If you're passionate about applying your engineering expertise to solve complex challenges in a commercial environment, this role is for you! Take the lead in developing software and integrating innovative sensor-based technologies for medical devices aimed at treating chemotherapy-induced alopecia (CIA). Work to create "smart" medical devices using an Internet of Things (IoT) strategy to change the face of Cancer.

Through a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP), you will be working in partnership with Paxman Coolers Limited and the Faculty of Engineering & Physical Sciences at the University of Leeds, one of the UK’s leading research intensive universities. 

Paxman Coolers Limited, based in Huddersfield, is a global leader in scalp cooling and cryotherapy. Paxman Coolers is on a journey to change the face of cancer through pioneering cooling technology to help prevent chemotherapy-induced alopecia (CIA). The company has also developed a medical device to prevent nerve damage in hands and feet in connection with chemotherapy (CIPN). In 2023, the cold cap system (i.e. CIA) helped almost 60,000 cancer patients across 60 countries to retain their hair during chemotherapy.

You will be integrated into Paxman Cooler’s R&D team in Huddersfield. This provides a unique environment to undertake extensive research, testing and development throughout the duration of your project. This will be supplemented when necessary during the project by utilising the "state of the art" facilities available at the University of Leeds.
