KTP Associate in Wind Hazard Modelling

You will work collaboratively with Lloyds Banking Group General Insurance Limited and the University of Leeds’ School of Earth, Environment and Sustainability. This role is located at 11 - 12 Wellington Place, Leeds LS1 4AP

Do you hold a PhD in Atmospheric Science, Climate Science, Fluid Dynamics, or a related field? Are you interested in the translation of hazard modelling research into commercial operations? This is an exciting opportunity to lead the transformation of how Lloyds Banking Group understands and manages UK windstorm risk by embedding cutting-edge climate science, machine learning, and advanced hazard modelling into its insurance operations.

The vision of this project is to advance the science of climate and weather risk through next-generation approaches to UK windstorm assessment, generating insights that extend beyond academia to deliver tangible benefits for customers, insurers, and society. In doing so, the project will help strengthen the Lloyds Banking Group General Insurance’s ability to respond to increasingly severe weather and climate risks, supporting long-term resilience and a more sustainable future.

The University of Leeds is offering a unique opportunity to accelerate your career through a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP). You will work collaboratively with Lloyds Banking Group General Insurance Limited and the University of Leeds’ School of Earth, Environment and Sustainability, gaining experience at the interface of world-leading academic research and real-world commercial application within one of the UK’s leading research-intensive universities.

As extreme weather events become more frequent and severe, the need to understand and manage climate-related risk has never been greater. By protecting more than 2.5 million UK households, Lloyds Banking Group plays a critical role in helping society withstand and recover from these events. This project provides an opportunity to contribute to that mission, advancing scientific understanding while helping ensure insurance remains a cornerstone of resilience in a changing climate.

As the KTP Associate, you will play a central role in delivering this strategically important project. Working closely with industry specialists and leading academics, you will lead the development and implementation of innovative climate risk and hazard modelling approaches, integrating advanced scientific and machine learning methodologies into operational insurance decision-making. You will be primarily based within Lloyds Banking Group’s Leeds offices, fully embedded within the organisation, while also benefiting from access to the University of Leeds’ world-class facilities, resources, and academic expertise, located only 1 mile away.
