Research Fellow in Oral Biology

Are you interested in working in the field of Oral Biology, furthering your career in one of the UK’s leading research intensive Universities? Do you have laboratory experience in human cell biology, microbiology and/ or immunology laboratory techniques? Would you like to join a team working on an industry funded project and do you have the skills and drive to work independently towards it’s completion?

This is an opportunity to join an established research team working with Dr Josie Meade and Dr Thuy Do in the Division of Oral Biology within the Leeds School of Dentistry, in collaboration with partners from the corporate oral health sector. As part of this team you will be investigating the influence of toothpaste additives on the activity of oral bacteria, human oral and immune cells, and the interactions between them. You will use mammalian and microbiological culture techniques, some of which are already used in our laboratories, others will need to be established and therefore experience in troubleshooting protocols will be required for successful delivery of the project.

You will have a PhD and first degree in biological sciences or a related discipline. You will also have experience of working independently and as part of a laboratory team.  Excellent interpersonal skills and communication skills will be essential, as is a willingness to occasionally work flexibly.

What we offer in return

  • 26 days holiday plus approx. 16 Bank Holidays/days that the University is closed by custom (including Christmas) – That’s 42 days a year!
