You will be responsible for providing technical support to the clinical skills courses which take place in the clinical skills classrooms of the School of Dentistry. You will ensure that equipment and consumables are available and working in the classrooms to ensure the sessions run smoothly. You will also undertake the general maintenance of the laboratory, dental equipment and phantom head simulators. You will work collaboratively with other technicians, clinical tutors/teachers, and support staff. Experience of the repair of dental simulators and associated dental equipment would be advantageous, but a general engineering/maintenance background would also be considered.
Occasional Saturday working to cover courses on an overtime basis would be required from time to time.

Main duties and responsibilities
You will be responsible for providing technical support and maintenance for laboratory equipment and courses in the Clinical Skills Classrooms, including:
- Lubrication and maintenance of all hand pieces, air motors and couplings;
- Straightening and sharpening of hand instruments and replacement with new where necessary;
- Clearing blocked waterways of all high-speed hand pieces;
- Diagnosis and repair of ADEC pneumatic air systems;
- Repair and service of various dental laboratory equipment;
- Servicing of foot control units;
- Checking hand pieces and organising and logging repairs where necessary;
- Assisting other technicians where appropriate;
- Helping to keep the Clinical Skills Classrooms tidy as necessary;
- Assisting with private and outside course bookings where necessary;
- Checking and maintenance of non-electrical laboratory equipment and aiding the instructors in general tidying and preparation work for all areas of the Clinical Skills Classrooms;
- Checking instruments out to students at the beginning of course and back in at the end;
- Repairing and preparation of Oral Surgery models;
- Any other technical repairs and replacements as required.
You will also be responsible for:
- Instructing students on the safe practices with regards to the phantom heads in Clinical Skills Classrooms, as part of the student induction and ongoing training;
- Providing technical support for other School of Dentistry/LDI courses as required;
- Undertaking Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) for university equipment in line with university and national guidelines on PAT testing and undertaking repairs to equipment as required;
- Distribution of consumables for student’s use during courses;
- Setting up labs prior to courses.
These duties provide a framework for the role and should not be regarded as a definitive list. Other reasonable duties may be required consistent with the grade of the post.
This role will require occasional Saturday working, to support provision of HEE courses within the Clinical skills labs.
