Cardiac Physiologist (Predoctoral Clinical Research Training Fellowship)

Are you a cardiac scientist/physiologist eager to develop a clinical academic career? Do you want to gain hands-on experience in cutting-edge cardiac research while building the skills to shape your future?

This fellowship offers a unique opportunity to join one of the UK’s leading research-intensive universities and work within a team committed to improving patient outcomes through the optimisation of cardiac device strategies, non-invasive cardiac imaging techniques, exercise assessment, and the improved heart failure diagnosis and management.

What is a Research Training Fellowship?

A research training fellowship is more than funding, it’s an investment in you. It provides protected time to step away from your substantive role and immerse yourself in research and training. Unlike grants, fellowships focus on your development as much as the research itself. You’ll benefit from:

  • Dedicated time for research and skill-building
  • Salary support to ensure continuity in your role
  • Access to training courses and mentorship

Why Pre-Doctoral?

Pre-doctoral fellowships are an essential first step on the clinical academic pathway. They help you build a strong foundation for future doctoral-level research, equipping you with the confidence, experience, and skills to succeed. This is your chance to explore research questions that matter, contribute to impactful projects, and position yourself for the next stage in your career.

Role purpose

The purpose of this role is to provide pre-doctoral clinical research training for a suitable cardiac scientist/physiologist. The fellowship will equip you with essential research skills, mentorship, and exposure to multidisciplinary teams, preparing you for future doctoral (PhD)-level research. You will contribute to ongoing studies in cardiac physiology and device therapy while undertaking formal training activities supported by institutional resources.

Who is eligible to apply?

You can apply if you are an AHCS or more preferably, a HCPC registered cardiac scientist/physiologist.

To be eligible for this funding opportunity you must also:

  • have a first Degree/Masters in a relevant health or life science discipline (e.g., physiology, biomedical science, or a closely related field).
  • have a strong background in clinical cardiac science/physiology, including experience in device management and/or cardiac imaging with a relevant cardiac rhythm management or echocardiography accreditation.
  • have interest in clinical academic career and cardiac research
  • be able to demonstrate ownership of your project and show ambition to follow a clinical academic career
  • be able to undertake a 12 month post, or part-time equivalent (open to discussion) to complete your clinical research training fellowship. This could be undertaken as a secondment from an NHS position.
