Research Programme and Operations Manager

Are you an experienced manager looking for an exciting and creative role supporting academic and research excellence? Are you able to provide co-ordination and operational skills to deliver an exciting and ambitious programme of work?  Do you have the skills to be able to work independently to tight timescales, to deliver a professional and supportive service to a diverse group of stakeholders?

We are looking for a professional and proactive individual to lead the operational and business management of the Healthcare Associated Infections Research Group, and the AMR and Infection Theme of the Leeds NIHR Biomedical Research Centre.

The Healthcare Associated Infections (HCAI) Research Group is a multi-organisation entity (University of Leeds, Leeds Teaching Hospitals and UKHSA) with a wide research portfolio with £10 million funding over the last 5 years, from industry and research councils. It also leads the Antimicrobial Resistance and Infection Theme of the NIHR Leeds BRC across both the Faculty of Medicine and Health and the Faculty of Biological Sciences. The NIHR Leeds BRC is an infrastructure grant of £20M from the National Institute of Health and Care Research (NIHR) to drive excellence in translational research across the University of Leeds and the Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust (LTHT). The Antimicrobial Resistance and Infection (AMRI) Theme has a £1.1m share of this investment.  HCAI RG portfolio also extends across the NIHR HealthTech Research Centre on Accelerated Surgical Care and the NIHR Oxford Health Protection Research Unit (HPRU) in HCAI and AMR, with which UoL is a collaborating partner.

As HCAI/AMRI Research Programme and Operations Manager you will manage the day to day operations of the HCAI Research Group and the AMRI theme at the Leeds NIHR BRC. You will take responsibility for HCAI Research Group and AMRI BRC Theme governance, coordinating the research programme across UoL and LTHT, NIHR HPRU and collaborative projects with UKHSA and other external agencies, e.g. NHS England and DHSC.  You will lead on marketing, communications and event management, supporting the Senior Management Team to develop and maintain partnerships and networks within the University and externally to build partnerships and build the HCAI research group and AMRI Theme’s reputation and impact. You will work to support the university operations of research conducted across the University of Leeds and Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, with responsibility for maintaining and monitoring business to support delivery of the HCAI research group and the AMRI Theme, and wider Leeds BRC objectives.   As a member of the HCAI Research Group and BRC AMR and Infection Theme SMT, you will play a major role in the high-level co-ordination of activities, including medium and long-term strategic development, planning and performance monitoring.

You will have significant stakeholder engagement and project management experience, strong reasoning and analytical skills and managerial experience. Administrative experience is essential, with the skills and ability to develop and implement new processes. You will also possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to deal diplomatically and effectively with a range of stakeholders both internal and external to the University and credibly engage with a range of stakeholders to promote the Centre’s vision and activities.

You will be based within the Leeds Institute of Medical Research (LIMR) and will work closely with the Head of HCAI Group and AMRI Theme Lead Prof Mark Wilcox OBE, the Co-Deputy Theme Leads, Dr Jane Freeman and Dr Kerrie Davies MBE, and the HCAI Research Group Senior Management Team.

This is both a demanding and rewarding role; competing priorities will require effective time and workload management, with the reward of working within and helping to develop further a dynamic research group.
