Senior Research Technician

Can you provide support and leadership to a team of technicians to support research projects? Do you have a strong interest in healthcare associated infection and antimicrobial resistance with extensive laboratory skills in these areas? Do you have strong analytical skills to identify and creatively solve experimental problems 

You will join a laboratory engaged in diverse aspects of Healthcare Associated Infection and Antimicrobial Resistance (HCAI) research. HCAI research group leads the AMR and Infection theme within the Leeds NIHR BRC and the Early Diagnosis and Personalised Medicine Theme within the NIHR HealthTech Research Centre in Accelerated Surgical Care. We have a wide portfolio of bench to bedside research and a diverse staff group. You will be supporting projects on Clostridioides difficile infection and microbiome including our innovative chemostat gut models; infection diagnostics, evaluating novel antimicrobials and providing bespoke laboratory testing for clinical trials. Planning and conducting a programme of experiments in this area while liaising with clinical and academic staff, you will also have responsibility for the day-to-day line management of technical staff within the team. You will be encouraged to develop within the role and have access to opportunities for career development. 

You will be qualified to degree level (or equivalent) in a relevant subject area and have extensive laboratory and research project experience, including line management. Experience of working in a CL2 laboratory, handling anaerobic bacteria, clinical samples and of DNA extraction and quality control of extracted nucleic acids (additional training in specific laboratory techniques will be available) will be essential. You should also have experience of laboratory testing of clinical trial samples to MHRA standards and have undertaken Good Clinical Practise training.
