Research Technician

Overview of the Role

Would you like to provide technical support for tissue banking activity in Leeds? Do you have excellent organisational and time-management skills? Do you have technical skills involving processing of clinical samples?

You will provide technical support and advice, particularly with regard to processing and banking of clinical samples such as blood, urine and tissue, within the Leeds Biobanking and Sample Processing Laboratory (LBSPL), working closely with colleagues in the University and the Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. This covers processing, banking and retrieval/shipping as needed, within both clinical trials and research studies and in relation to local Research Tissue Banks (RTBs).

You will be involved in initiating new procedures for specific projects at times to ensure optimal sample collection for specific studies, liaising between members of various clinical teams and the LBSPL team members.

An important aspect of this role will also be in ensuring compliance of any activities with relevant legislation such as the Human Tissue Act (HTA), GCP/GCLP etc and in meticulously recording relevant data and tracking samples.

The post will be mainly based in the sample processing labs in the Clinical Sciences Building (CSB) and Welcome Trust Brenner Building (WTBB) on the St James’s University Hospital site but some cross-site working at other hospital sites may also occasionally be needed.

What we offer in return
