Research Assistant (People Centred Design)

This role will be based on the University campus, with scope for it to be undertaken in a hybrid manner. We are open to discussing flexible working arrangements. 

The Learning Design Team (LDT) is seeking a Research Assistant to provide insights and analysis to inform  Schools and/or programme teams going through a Curriculum Design Sprint.  

The research assistant will work as part of the LDT, along with two existing research assistants,  to support the delivery of curriculum design sprints, and specifically lead on the pre-sprint phase of discovery with students and other relevant stakeholders. Curriculum Design Sprints at Leeds broadly involve 3 stages, that include discovery, facilitated intensive design sprints over 1-2 days, and finally test and feedback sessions.

The role will primarily provide the qualitative insights for Schools or programme teams who are investigating various themes across student education, for example, using methods such as interviews, listening rooms, focus groups and document analysis. The capturing of insights as part of curriculum design is an integral part of the design approach and the outputs will need to be accessible to teams from the breadth of academic disciplinary contexts.  It will be essential that the successful candidate is able to work collaboratively, flexibly and present outputs in a wide range of formats including story boards, quotes, and extended narratives.  

The Learning Design Team is a relatively new area of provision bringing together a broad range of design, educational development and academic expertise to work with Schools and programme teams. We are therefore seeking a research assistant who is prepared to work collaboratively with a range of colleagues from across the institution and bring their own skills and expertise to the team.

You will have research experience in a social science or closely allied discipline and an understanding of qualitative and mixed-methods research, alongside a broad understanding of higher education. You will have the ability to work well both individually without supervision, using your own initiative and as part of a team. You feel comfortable with uncertainty and enjoy being creative.
