Lecturer / Associate Professor in Sustainability, Economics, and Low-Carbon Transitions

Job sharing arrangements can be considered

We are looking for an enthusiastic and self-motivated environmental social scientist with a focus on sustainability, economics and low-carbon transitions. The post will contribute to building the University of Leeds strategy and themes (in particular the Energy, Climate Change, Water, Food and Cities and Sustainable Societies themes), including in upcoming interdisciplinary and interfaculty teaching at the postgraduate level.

Your research should be in one or several of the broad areas outlined below. It should be interdisciplinary, and can bridge social science, business, management, economics, engineering, environmental science and climate science.
• Ecological economics of transition, including radical alternative models of future sustainable economies;
• Political economy of sustainability transitions: taking into account existing power structures, institutions, vested interests and their role in national and international policies;
• Business models and strategies required to achieve a transition to sustainability;
• Social practices and behaviours in sustainable transitions, energy savings and emissions mitigation;
• Earth Systems Governance: interaction between the organisation of societies and large scale environmental phenomena including planetary boundaries;
• Integrated Assessment Modelling of climate-energy-economy systems, including agriculture and land use;
• Socio-technical sustainability of low-carbon transitions: considering socio-economic aspects of the widespread deployment of low-carbon technologies;
• Innovative mitigation scenarios, including cumulative emissions budgets, forcing-based scenarios, burden-sharing, and technological implications of non-CO2 GHGs and land-use.

You should have a PhD (or for Lecturer level be close to obtaining), research and teaching experience and publication track record relevant to the area and grade of the appointment. In terms of teaching, you will be expected to contribute to the established Masters and Bachelors programmes within the Sustainability Research Institute, but also to support new postgraduate teaching across faculties, for instance the MSc in Ecological Economics (joint between SRI and the Leeds University Business School), MSc in Sustainable Cities, MSc in Sustainable Energy Systems (joint with the Faculty of Engineering). These initiatives are closely aligned with the University of Leeds strategic emphasis on key interdisciplinary themes, such as Cities and Sustainable Societies, Climate Change, Energy, Water, Food and Health.
